Nature Identification API v2

This is the documentation for the currently non-public upcoming release of MSM26, which is expected to go public December 2026. It is currently being tested by our partners. Please contact team.nai@naturalis.nl for information about the old documentation.

The Nature Identification API (NIA) offers AI based web services capable of identifying and localizing nature objects on images. Identification is done by species recognition models. Created with Deep learning technology, these models can identify plants and animals on specific taxonomic levels with high level of accuracy. The API currently offers access to an extensive species recognition model that has been trained with large sets of observation data from several parties across Europe. This API is a successor to the v1 API (User manual Nature Identification API v1 - Public) and will replace the v1 API for newly developed identification models.
